Meanwhile Back at the Ranch...

On Sunday morning (the morning after Andrew's wedding), we left the hotel and made the hour drive to the ranch to spend some time with Mom, Armando and Uncle Calletano (or Uncle Larry as we like to call him...but that's a long story - haha). They arrived there last Friday to spend a few days, go to Andrew's wedding (about an hour from the ranch) and then they will head to Port Aransas on Thursday for the weekend. Mom and Armando love spending time at the ranch (which is outside of Devine, Texas) and eventually hope to make their home there - it's their happy place!

We got out there Sunday in time for a delicious breakfast and to scope out the area. It's such a nice and peaceful place - so relaxing! About mid-morning, we went into Bandera to walk around downtown and visit some craft booths in the downtown square area. We also shared some nachos on the patio of a nice little restaurant on main street. We even got to see a short parade of horses. After we were back to the ranch we took a drive in the golf cart around the ranch to see it all, John took a nap, we enjoyed the rain, the guys played horseshoes...then that evening we had a very yummy dinner, talked and watched some tv. We slept in the motorhome that night and left for home on Monday morning.

Here are a few of the pictures we took (again, we took several - though Mom and I didn't make it into any)...

I think after spending time at the ranch, we were really in relax mode because when we got back home on Monday we took a three hour nap...which I NEVER do - WOW! It felt really good though - we got some much needed rest.

We will be out of town again this weekend to visit John's family in Arkansas. We are looking forward to a nice time with them and of course we'll have a report on that trip as well! Have a great rest of the week and weekend...

Until we meet again...

Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Hagelstein

Andrew and Heidi were married Saturday night! It was a beautiful ceremony and everything went great. They had a small, but lovely outdoor ceremony with parents and siblings (w/their spouses and children). They were married in Pipe Creek, Texas at Heidi's Aunt and Uncle's house - it was an amazing place and gorgeous setting! It rained ALL day Saturday and then about two hours before the ceremony the rain stopped, the sun started shining...God is good!! Afterwards, Heidi's Dad provided everyone with a yummy BBQ dinner...then we all enjoyed cake and punch while playing and visiting outside. So happy for them!

Here are a few pictures (we took several) ...

The Groom!

The happy couple!

The proud parents!

Big Sister and Little Brother!

Me and my new Sister-in-Law!

The other happy couple - me with my sweet, handsome husband!!

We also spent all of Sunday with my Mom, Armando and Uncle "Larry" at the ranch so there will be a separate post on that and a few pictures as well. We had a great time with them!!

Until we meet again...

Show Us Where You Live Friday - Dining Room

Here are a few pictures of the Ussery dining room! We really love this room and the way it's decorated...plus it looks out into the front yard and driveway so we can see what's going on in the neighborhood. We didn't have an actual dining room in our house in Arkansas (more like a dining nook in the kitchen) so we really appreciate having this nice, big room - just wish we used it more. We tend to sit at the bar since it's just the two of us, but we use it some...especially when we have company in town to eat our meals, visit and drink coffee or play games. We also used to do our weekly devotionals at the table, but lately we've been sitting in the living room. Maybe this will encourage us to use this room more...
This is actually looking into the entry way from the hall. I added this entry way area because it attaches to the dining room. This is the front door of our house and the dining room is on the left.
This is a shot above the front door showing our "The Ussery Home - Est. 2003" sign. We love this sign, which Grammy gave us! Hard to believe it's been six years already that we have been "The Usserys".
This little bench with eight cubby holes for shoes sits in the entry way. At the holidays we tend to put a few things on and around this to spruce it up. My Mom got us this bench and we love it! The door you see goes into John's office - we'll see that when the "Show Us Where You Live Friday - Office" comes around!
This hangs on the wall above the bench...it is our wedding picture and a wall hanging! Our life and all we are blessed with truly is because we fell in love - God is good!!
This is a view from standing in then entry way into the dining room! The only thing I would change about this room at this point is I wish it didn't have carpet. We hope to some day have a wood or laminate floor in here - it would just be easier with food involved. The main colors in here are burgundy, olive, cream and tan. Don't you love the diamond wall??? More on that in a bit...
Our dining table can seat eight people with the leafs we have, but we only have these four chairs. Hopefully we can get another set of four one of these days and be prepared for when we have visitors. You can see a good shot of the diamonds on this wall. Those are ALL painted on - that's right, each diamond is painted...a lot of people think it's wall paper when they walk in. My dear friend, Carianne (http://athomewiththebilletts.blogspot.com/) came and so kindly helped paint and decorate this room. This diamond wall was her idea and we just adore it! It was quite a project indeed - a grid was drawn first to make sure everything was level and centered and then the diamonds were painted - it turned out awesome!! It definitely grabs your attention when you walk in the front door.
Just another view of the front door/entry area and the connection to the dining room. You'll notice a couple of magnolia pictures which tie in the colors nicely. My dream is to own a home some day with huge magnolia trees surrounding it.
Various views of the dining room...

This was my grandmother's china cabinet (my Dad's Mom). I am SO thankful to have this!! My grandparents collected bells and they would keep many of them in here. I can remember growing up and wanting to have this in my home someday...and now I do!! We have a lot of our wedding crystal in here so it's nice to display and have easy access to when we need to use it. Also on the bottom shelf is something very special - my Grammy and Flash's silverware set. Grammy also wrote me a note when she gave it to me and I keep it in there to read when I open it. On the top shelf I have a tea cup from both my grandmother's and Grammy's china sets - what treasures!

This is the arrangement on top of the china cabinet. This dinner plate was $3 at Wal-Mart and Carianne wrote on it with a paint pen. I got the cross easel for Christmas from John's parents. The little frame on the right reads "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord".

Carianne made this arrangement and it is actually in a trash can. Neat, huh? It is a trash can for a bathroom - we got it at Wal-Mart.

Thanks for stopping by - we wish you a great holiday weekend!

Until we meet again...

Show Us Where You Live Friday - Guest Room

Here are picture sof the Ussery guest room! This is a very plain and simple room, but nice and comfortable too. It's one of the few areas of the house we have yet to paint - haha, but we will get there! You will notice that other rooms in our house have so much color, but this is still white as can be - plus it's the room used least often.
As you can tell we have the nautical/lighthouse theme going on in here. We've had this decor in our guest room since we've been married. Since we've moved to Texas, we've had several people sleep in this guest room...much more so than in Arkansas, simply because we are kind of in the middle of everyone now and it's a bit easier to come and visit us.

This is taken from the doorway - entering the guest room!

Our guest bed is quiet comfortable! We've used it ourselves for naps, being sick, etc and we get many compliments on how cozy it is. I LOVE this bed too because it was in my grandmother's house, then my Aunt Eva had it and then we recevied it before my aunt passed away. It's held up really well. It does make a few noises, but that gives it character. It's a treasure! The picture above the bed is very special too (more on that later)...although it gets swallowed by the big white wall - LOL!

Another view of the bed, the nightstand and the door that goes back into the hallway!

This is on the wall opposite the bed and nightstand. I've had this entertainment center for over 10 years - when I was still living at home and in my apartment in college! It's been through a lot with me and with us...I've also had the boat bookshelves for a while too! Aren't they so cute?

This piece actually goes with the entertainment center. You can have it separated as we do...or have it as one unit. The porcelain dolls on top were a gift from my Grammy and Flash years ago(another treasure!) and all the pictures on these shelves are of our nieces and nephews. Of course you can also see the bedroom closet door on the left and the hallway on the right.

A closer shot of the nightstand. Can you see that the legs are oars? This is very special because my stepdad Armando made this for me for Christmas a few years ago especially for our guest room. He modeled it after the boat bookshelves and it matches perfect!

This bench sits under the window parallel to the foot of the bed. Inside of it we have several extra blankets. This was a wedding present from Grammy!

This picture is actually embroidered. This was made by my Aunt Eva and then framed by my Dad and Kristin. Eva died of cancer a few years ago...she and I were VERY close and I miss her greatly. I love having this picture (as well as several other things) to remember her by.

These bears sit in their basket on the entertainment center - can you believe that we found a "Riley" bear?

This arrangement sits in the center of the entertainment center. The beach pictures (of us and our toes in the sand) were taken last summer in Galveston. The sand that the candle is sitting in is also from Galveston. We had a great vacation- fun times!

Thanks for stopping by our guest room-have a great weekend!
Until we meet again...

We want to wish all the mothers in our lives a very HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! We thank God for our mothers and grandmothers and pray that they have a wonderful Sunday. Below are a few pictures of our Moms...
This is a picture of John and his Mom (Karen) and brother Jason. John's parents and his brother Jason and family live in Mount Vernon, Arkansas.

This is a picture of my Mom (Mari) and my brother Andrew - they live in Odessa.
This is the most recent picture of my stepmom (Kristin). Her and my Dad also live in Odessa.
Here is a picture of my Mom, my Grammy and I on my wedding day. I love this picture of the three of us on such a special day!

My "grandmas" on our wedding day! From left to right...this is my Grandma (my stepdad's Mom - she lives in Pearsall, Texas), my Grammy (she lives with my Mom and stepdad, Armando in Odessa) and my Grandma Stone (my stepmom's Mom - she went to be with the Lord at Christmas 2007). We also remember John's grandmas and my grandmother (my Dad's mom) who are no longer with us, but we love to reflect on the memories we have of them.

Here is my sweet, furry child with his favorite thing - a fleece blanket. John gave me a Mother's Day card from Calvin with a Staples gift card inside. To some that might sound boring, but to one who LOVES office supplies, it's oh so exciting! He also gave me an "Aunt" Mother's Day card and he thanked me for being a great aunt on behalf of our nieces and nephews and that was so special. He's so thoughtful!!
Again, we wish you all a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
Until we meet again...

Show Us Where You Live Friday - Living Room

Below are pictures of the Ussery living room! Our living room is open to the kitchen, which we really like for conversation and being able to see the television while cooking. The living room is on the back of the house so the door in our living room goes out to the back patio/backyard. We want to do a different picture or decorative piece over the TV, but we are still working on that! I started our living room photos with a couple of pictures that we love in our living room...
This is a shelf on our DVD bookcase. This picture of us is the most recent professional picture of us...it was for the church directory and we were really pleased with it. There's also the Willow Tree figurine called "Together" we got when we were married and a picture of our wedding party! The "love" shelf if you will - hee hee!

This picture of Calvin is on the same bookcase...we got this frame on vacation last year and love it! Calvin is curled up on our bed in this picture - he loves our bed and his blankets. I know everyone says this, but Calvin is just the best dog and brings us so much happiness. He's very much a part of our little family.
This picture is displayed on the table between our big chair and John's recliner. This was a Christmas gift from John and one of my favorite gifts EVER. He made it and framed it himself! What a special gift looking at all sorts of pictures of us and remembering so many great times together. I love it so much...

The rest of the pictures are various views of our living room and also one that shows how it connects to the kitchen. Sorry for any pictures that are a tad blurry...

Until we meet again...
