Show Us Where You Live Friday - Dining Room

Here are a few pictures of the Ussery dining room! We really love this room and the way it's decorated...plus it looks out into the front yard and driveway so we can see what's going on in the neighborhood. We didn't have an actual dining room in our house in Arkansas (more like a dining nook in the kitchen) so we really appreciate having this nice, big room - just wish we used it more. We tend to sit at the bar since it's just the two of us, but we use it some...especially when we have company in town to eat our meals, visit and drink coffee or play games. We also used to do our weekly devotionals at the table, but lately we've been sitting in the living room. Maybe this will encourage us to use this room more...
This is actually looking into the entry way from the hall. I added this entry way area because it attaches to the dining room. This is the front door of our house and the dining room is on the left.
This is a shot above the front door showing our "The Ussery Home - Est. 2003" sign. We love this sign, which Grammy gave us! Hard to believe it's been six years already that we have been "The Usserys".
This little bench with eight cubby holes for shoes sits in the entry way. At the holidays we tend to put a few things on and around this to spruce it up. My Mom got us this bench and we love it! The door you see goes into John's office - we'll see that when the "Show Us Where You Live Friday - Office" comes around!
This hangs on the wall above the bench...it is our wedding picture and a wall hanging! Our life and all we are blessed with truly is because we fell in love - God is good!!
This is a view from standing in then entry way into the dining room! The only thing I would change about this room at this point is I wish it didn't have carpet. We hope to some day have a wood or laminate floor in here - it would just be easier with food involved. The main colors in here are burgundy, olive, cream and tan. Don't you love the diamond wall??? More on that in a bit...
Our dining table can seat eight people with the leafs we have, but we only have these four chairs. Hopefully we can get another set of four one of these days and be prepared for when we have visitors. You can see a good shot of the diamonds on this wall. Those are ALL painted on - that's right, each diamond is painted...a lot of people think it's wall paper when they walk in. My dear friend, Carianne (http://athomewiththebilletts.blogspot.com/) came and so kindly helped paint and decorate this room. This diamond wall was her idea and we just adore it! It was quite a project indeed - a grid was drawn first to make sure everything was level and centered and then the diamonds were painted - it turned out awesome!! It definitely grabs your attention when you walk in the front door.
Just another view of the front door/entry area and the connection to the dining room. You'll notice a couple of magnolia pictures which tie in the colors nicely. My dream is to own a home some day with huge magnolia trees surrounding it.
Various views of the dining room...

This was my grandmother's china cabinet (my Dad's Mom). I am SO thankful to have this!! My grandparents collected bells and they would keep many of them in here. I can remember growing up and wanting to have this in my home someday...and now I do!! We have a lot of our wedding crystal in here so it's nice to display and have easy access to when we need to use it. Also on the bottom shelf is something very special - my Grammy and Flash's silverware set. Grammy also wrote me a note when she gave it to me and I keep it in there to read when I open it. On the top shelf I have a tea cup from both my grandmother's and Grammy's china sets - what treasures!

This is the arrangement on top of the china cabinet. This dinner plate was $3 at Wal-Mart and Carianne wrote on it with a paint pen. I got the cross easel for Christmas from John's parents. The little frame on the right reads "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord".

Carianne made this arrangement and it is actually in a trash can. Neat, huh? It is a trash can for a bathroom - we got it at Wal-Mart.

Thanks for stopping by - we wish you a great holiday weekend!

Until we meet again...
:) Riley
