Five Months

Parker Holt, you are five months old!

You went from this newborn babe...
 To this one month old...
 To this two month old...
 To this three month old...
 To this four month old...
To this five month old...

Based on an at home estimation/experiment, you weigh roughly 14 pounds and  6 ounces and are 26 1/2" long.  You don't have a doctor's appointment this month, but will have your 6-month check-up on August 28th.  We will get more accurate measurements then.

You are still wearing size 2 diapers and 3-6 month or 6 month clothing, mostly 6 months.  It won't be long before you are in the next size of diapers and clothes.  You are a growing boy indeed.

You eat about 5-6 times a day, every 3-4 hours ~ breastfeeding and formula.  We haven't started you on food yet, but we plan to in the coming weeks.  Mommy is hoping to make as much of your food as possible.  We will see how that works out.  No teeth yet, but we expect them anytime.  You chew constantly on things and drool quite a bit. Your hair is really starting to grow.  It looks like you are going to be a little blondie like Mommy, but you have hints of red in some light like Daddy.

You still sleep really well through the night and take about a 30 minute nap in between each feeding.  Sometimes it's right after you eat and sometimes it's an hour or two after you have eaten.  You still sleep in the pack and play in Mommy and Daddy's room.  Our goal is to have you in your crib by the end of the summer, which is right around the time you'll be 6 months old.

You are a very active, wiggly baby.  When laying on the floor, you are rolling from side to side, grabbing items around you, playing with your feet, looking all around and using your body to move into various positions.  You have yet to roll from your back to tummy, but you are so very close - inches away.  We have a little play area set up in the living room for you to have fun.  We call it our little playground complete with a quilt, pillow and lots of toys.  We spend a lot of time there playing with you.  You are really into small toys right now.  You love grabbing them and chewing on them.   Your favorites are ones that crinkle or rattle.  You have some squishy blocks that you are in love with and we take one with us wherever we go.  You are interested in so many things.  I love seeing your focus and curiosity.  You like to touch and grab pretty much everything you can get your hands on.  Sometimes you just like to touch things to feel the texture, but most of the time you like to grab hold of all sorts of things.  You really like to look in the mirror at yourself - you smile and get so excited .

Your most favorite thing right now is the exersaucer.  You spend a lot of time in there throughout the day.  We get such a kick out of watching you in it and seeing how curious you are and watching you smile as you play.  You have spent some time in your jumperoo too, but I think you need to get a little bit longer/bigger before you enjoy it fully.

You are becoming very vocal.  You "talk" and make all sorts of different sounds - cracks us up.  Your legs are very strong and you like to stand up on our legs or on the floor with us holding your hands.

You took another trip to Grandma and Grandad's in mid-July.  We took you to meet your cousins Jacob and Issac for the first time.  Boy did they love you!  The three of you had so much fun together.  They were very sweet with you and helped take care of you. Mamaw came to visit us in late June, right after you turned 4 months old.  She got to go with us to your 4-month check-up.  She had a wonderful time with you reading, feeding, playing, dressing...even diapering.  We had some fun shopping as well. She was a big help for Mommy and Daddy.

While it was fairly low key, you celebrated your first Independence Day.  We had a relaxing day at home and a yummy meal for dinner.

Here are some pictures from the last month...

Parker, we love and adore you so so much!  We continue to be amazed and enthralled in your ever-changing growth, development and personality.  You are such a bright spot in our life and bring us constant joy and happiness.  You are almost half a year old and we can't believe it!

Until we meet again...
Riley
