Eleven Months

Parker Holt, you are eleven months old!

You went from this newborn babe...
 To this one month old...

To this two month old...
 To this three month old...
To this four month old...

 To this five month old...

To this six month old...
To this seven month old...
 To this eight month old...
 To this nine month old...
 To this ten month old...
To this eleven month old...
Let's just say this month's photo shoot didn't go too well, but it was a funny one.  You were more interested in the sticker, peeling it off your shirt and exploring the stickiness of it.  I guess you finally figured out it was a sticker after all this time.  Even in a couple of the pictures above, you are grabbing the edge ready to pull it off, but I took a picture just in time.  What a hoot!

Cue the outtakes...
This picture is pure preciousness (if that's not a word, it should be).  I think you are saying "But Mommy, this is just innocent fun - how can you be upset at this face." Adorable!
How can you be one month away from your first birthday? This year has been such a blast...so so fun and special!

No doctor's appointment this month, so it'll be another month before we know exactly how much you weigh and how tall you are.  I predict 22 pounds or more and about 30-31" long.  You will go see Dr. Rester the Tuesday after your birthday for a one year check-up, shots and measurements.  I am looking forward to seeing how much you have grown since your nine month visit.

You are still wearing size 3 diapers during the day, but we put you in a size 4 nighttime diaper after your evening bath so it'll hold more through your sleep at night. You are wearing mostly 12 month clothing. A few 9-12 month items still fit you, but not too many.  Mommy spent last week cleaning out your closet and dresser and packing up more clothes - frown!  I made room for all of the 18 month stuff you'll be in in no time.

You are still on a breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack schedule and it is working well.  You usually eat your breakfast about 7:30 and then get a bottle afterwards, lunch comes about 11:30 with a bottle to follow and then you have dinner about 4:00 with a bottle also.  About 7-7:30 we give you a snack then we do your bath and bedtime routine with one last bottle before bed.  As you get a little older and can go a bit longer in between meals you'll just start eating when we eat - sometimes that works out and sometimes it doesn't.  We are also trying to work with you on transitioning from a bottle to a cup (sippy cup and/or straw cup). So far, not so good, but we'll keep trying - practice makes progress and one day you'll just start drinking from it like a pro.

The days of Mommy making your food are pretty much over.  That's because you are becoming more of a table food eater.  You still eat some "baby food", but we are trying to introduce you to various foods in bite-sized form.  You are getting better and better about picking up food with your fingers and feeding yourself. Mommy has a list of different foods to try in the coming weeks - it's a learning experience for us all.  We gave you pieces of a french fry yesterday and you didn't much care for it.  I will probably be making different meats, vegetables and fruits for you to experiment with so we can see what you like most.  You have a few favorite snacks too.  You love your cheerios!

You usually go to bed between 8-8:30 and get up between 6:30-7, sometimes earlier and sometimes later.  The majority of the time you sleep so well at night, but occasionally wake up for one reason or another - not too often though.  You still take a morning and afternoon nap.  The morning nap is usually only about half an hour and the afternoon nap is usually about an hour, but again, sometimes more and sometimes less.

You have eight teeth and are starting to work on your molars - poor buddy! We haven't felt any teeth yet, but you are definitely showing your normal signs of cutting teeth.

You are cruising along the furniture constantly and pull up on everything.  Some day soon, you are just going to take off walking.  Sometimes you let go, not realizing that you are going to fall down, but it will help you learn about balance.  You are so active and fun - so happy and excited about your little life.

A few things I wanted to remember about you right now...

You love ALL water.  You love to watch Daddy washing dishes, you love the bath, you love to watch things steam, you love to watch Calvin drink from his water bowl - anything to do with water, you are there.  You were so interested in the produce man spraying the vegetables the other day at the grocery store.  We want to take you to an aquarium sometime this spring or summer and maybe to see the big fountain down on the harbor in Rockwall.

You have learned to turn a light switch off.  If we leave a room and say "turn the light off" you flip the switch down - most of the time.  Sometimes you aren't interested.  You also love to throw the ball.  You will sit in the floor and if we say "throw me the ball" you will and we catch it and roll it back to you.  It's a fun little game.  And while you use both of your hands from time to time, you tend to usually throw with your left.  You may be a lefty like your Daddy.

You can say "Mama" pretty well and we are working on "Hi".  At times you kind of say it.  You "talk" and babble a lot, but no other clear words yet - hopefully "Dada" is next!

You have graduated to a new car seat - you were just getting too long and big for the other one.  You are still rear facing for a little while longer, but you are in a nice, cushy new ride.  This car seat you'll be able to stay in until you are 70 pounds so it'll be around for a while.

You still love music - hearing it, playing it on your toys, watching other people sing and play, etc.  You've even started dancing and bouncing a little to the beat.

You know what "kiss" is and when you are in the mood and a kiss is requested by someone, you usually give it. You also love to kiss yourself in the mirror.

You might notice in a couple of pictures that you have an orange tone to your nose.  Daddy discovered that if you eat a lot of orange foods, the beta carotene turns your nose orange.  I guess that's what you get for loving carrots and sweet potatoes. Funny!

You don't watch a ton of tv, sometimes we leave the tv off and play, but you have a few favorite shows.  You like "Bubble Guppies", "Team Umizoomi", "Dora the Explorer", "Lamp Chop's Play Along" (old show) and "The Fresh Beat Band" to name a few.  Probably your favorite is "Wheel of Fortune" - we watch it every night.  I think you love the colors and motion of the wheel and the little bell sounds throughout the show.

You really enjoy books.  We read you one each night and sometimes during the day.  But even if we aren't reading one, you love to just look through them on your own.  It's so sweet to watch you flipping through the pages - I always wonder what's going through your little head.
I'd better stop there - I'm getting carried away (as usual).

A big event this past month was that you celebrated your first Christmas!  We stayed home and celebrated as a family of three and Calvin.  We went to dinner on Christmas Eve and Daddy read the Christmas story from the Bible.  We got Santa's cookies ready and put you to bed.  Santa came overnight and we had a fun morning opening gifts, playing and eating breakfast.  We gave you three gifts.  That's how many gifts Jesus got when he was born.

One very special thing about your first Christmas was that it snowed - it was beautiful! We didn't go out and play in it because it had rained a lot before so it was really wet and cold and you are still a bit to little, but hopefully someday.  It was such a fun Christmas season with you P-Man.
A few days after Christmas, we went to spend a few days at Grandma and Grandad's and celebrate Christmas with them.  Unfortunately, Grandad was sick and in bed the whole time we were there.  You did get to spend some time with your cousins Jacob and Isaac.  We hadn't seen them since July so it was great to have them there. You had grown and changed so much since they last saw you.  We had a really nice time while we were in Mount Vernon. We played, relaxed and you got lots of attention.
Trying to get your hands on Calvin.  He's not been too keen on you touching him lately - not sure why, but he's been running off when you get too close to him.  He does like for you to drop food on the floor for him to gobble up.  You love to pet Calvin and try to kiss him.  One of these days he'll realize what good friends you will be.
We went to Fredericksburg the second weekend of January to celebrate a late Christmas with Granny and Grandpa.  We were hoping to see and spend some time with your cousins Scottie and Noah on the trip, but we were disappointed it didn't work out.  Hopefully another time.  We had a fun time while we were there and did various things at their house and around town.  You also got to help feed the deer that come up in the yard daily - how neat.  They have a cat, Madeline, that you made every effort to chase and play with, but she wasn't too interested.  It was your first time to be around a kitty cat.
More attempts to try to get Calvin to love you!  He will little buddy, just be patient.  Calvin's getting older and was an only child for nine years.  He'll come around.
Oh Parker, what a great month this last month has been.  I'll say it again, we cannot believe that you will be ONE in a month.  You, Mommy and Daddy will all celebrate our birthdays next month.  With all of those, Mommy and Daddy's anniversary and Valentine's Day, we have oh so much celebrating to do - a special time indeed.  We adore and love you Parker and consider it such a joy to be your parents and be a part of your life everyday.

Until we meet again...
Riley

P.S.  One more monthly post and then I will probably go to updating our blog every other week or so (hopefully a little more regularly) with specific events, outings, holidays, trips, activities, stuff around the house, fun times, etc.
