Happenings 'Round Here
This is just a hodge podge of pictures I've taken over the last couple of weeks.
Once we got back from Fredericksburg, we had a good little crop of squash. Our squash plants have done really well. They've all produced what they were going to so we planted more. We've also got okra coming up as well.
About two weeks ago, I made up a "Hello Summer" basket for Parker and surprised him with it at dinner one night. It was so cute how giddy and excited he was. Some of the items included a DVD, new chapter book for us to read and a bookmark, water balloons, summertime bath soap and bath crackles, goldfish crackers and binoculars to name a few. He's already enjoyed a lot of it!
I'm always working on homeschooling in some form or fashion. I have homeschool to dos each and every week - it's ongoing, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm always preparing things for what we are doing now and planning for what we need to be working on in the future. We are carrying our kindergarten year into the summer for several weeks because we have gotten a bit off-track with Parker's new therapy. He actually started a new schedule today in hopes that we can have a little school time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week. Once we finish up some kindergarten learning lessons and activities, we'll take a break for a few weeks and then dive into 1st grade.
One afternoon we went to the library and checked out our books and movies and also worked on a couple of math activities.
It was also time to sign up for the library's summer reading program. We have done this for the last couple of years. Once you register, you receive sheets with blank stars on them to color in. For every 15 minutes you read, are read to, look at a book or listen to a book you get to color in a star. Each star gets you a ticket and you can use those tickets to buy prizes. Parker's almost up to 20 stars colored in. We love books!
One of the activities on our Summer Fun List is to have a water balloon fight so that's just what we did last week. After dinner one evening, we filled up 100 balloons and starting firing at each other. Parker had a blast and since then, we've done it again. It was a hit and tons of family fun.
A Happy Sunday to you!
We've been really pleased with how well our garden has done overall (although there have been a few duds). We have gotten tons of sweet, little cherry tomatoes. We are having to pick them daily to keep up - they are so tasty! Take it from me, since I'm the only one that eats them!
Back on the homeschooling front, one day while Parker was gone I did some reorganizing and sorting of some of our homeschool stuff. We have two shelves in a hallway that house a lot of our items and we have the rest in the playroom/school room. I made a good mess and did some rearranging and got rid of a few things.
Ahhh, much better! Never underestimate the power of a little purging, cleaning and organization!
We had a wonderful Father's Day Sunday, but more on that another time. That's all for now - hope your week is a great one!
Until we meet again...
