Oklahoma Trip ~ Day One

While we have a lot going on right now and there are many pictures to share, I wanted to go back post a few things that happened earlier in the year.  I am excited to document a fun, week long road trip we took back in the spring.  While everyone is out of school now and taking fun summer vacation trips, I wanted to re-visit our trip that we took in April.

When we decided to take a family trip, we debated about where to go.  We discussed a few places and did a little research.  We wanted to go somewhere we'd never been before, but also some place fairly close where we could pack more activities into our week and not just drive and spend a lot of time in the car.  We don't mind long road trips, but for this one we were looking for some place close.

For various reasons, we finally decided on Oklahoma.  Oklahoma is a state we have only driven through once, but never stayed or done any exploring.  We decided to break up our trip into two specific cities - Stillwater and Oklahoma City.  There is also a lot to do in the Tulsa area, but we chose these two spots this time.  We wanted to take our trip before school got out for the summer (so places wouldn't be as crowded) and we wanted to try and avoid the severe/tornadic weather season.

It was lot of fun planning this trip and we were eager to hit the road.  We spent the weekend before we left gathering, packing and taking care of some household to dos.  We left on Sunday morning...away we go and ready for an adventure.

Our first destination was Stillwater, Oklahoma.  Once we arrived, we checked into our hotel, unloaded and settled into our room.  After some resting and freshening up, we headed back out on the town.  The first order of business was visiting the Optimus Prime statue.  I had read an article online about two famous Transformer statues in Stillwater built entirely out of car parts and pieces - we knew it was a must to see these.  They stand about 22' tall.  The picture doesn't do it justice, but there are so many bits and pieces to this structure.  Parker was excited and very impressed.  We saw this one today and the other one on another day.

After that, we headed to Eskimo Joe's for dinner.  Everything I read or saw said this was a must when you are in Stillwater.

When we finished dinner, we took some time to drive around and see the town.  Stillwater is home to Oklahoma State University so it was neat to drive around the beautiful campus.  We have watched a few football games that took place in this stadium.
We went back to our hotel after that and enjoyed some relaxation time and got ready for bed.  One of the highlights of the whole trip for Parker was staying in the hotel - he was so happy!
We had a little coffee that evening and the hotel had these cute coffee cups!
That wraps up our adventuring for the first day...more to come!

Until we meet again...
Riley
