Oklahoma Trip ~ Day Two

Monday was day two of our adventuring through Oklahoma.

We got up and ready for the day at ate breakfast at the hotel.  We stopped by a local coffee shop for some yummy coffee before we hit the road for a little day trip.

Our destination was Pawhuska, Oklahoma and it was about 75-80 miles from our hotel.  Pawhuska is a very small town in the middle of nowhere basically, but it's home to The Mercantile, the Pioneer Woman's restaurant and store.

My love for the Pioneer Woman (Ree Drummond) runs deep.  I have all of her fabulous cookbooks, have made several of her yummy recipes, have lots of her kitchenware items/utensils/dishes and love watching her show.  Much to my delight, Parker has grown to love watching her show as well.  We will record episodes and watch it while we eat lunch sometimes.  Sweet times!

Needless to say, I was a wee bit eager for this day.  John and Parker were so sweet and kind to make a day out of going here. I think Parker was a little disappointed because he had high hopes that we would get to meet her - haha!  Me too buddy, me too!

It was like Christmas morning when we pulled up and I saw this building in downtown Pawhuska. I'd seen it on TV several times so I was excited to be there in person.

The Mercantile is a restored old building downtown. It was a beautiful two-story layout with restaurant, shopping, coffee shop and dessert.  It was so pretty and well decorated - so much detail.  After we looked around a little, we got in the lunch line and had to wait for a little bit.  It was a tad more crowded than we anticipated for a Monday (we happened to be there during the Oklahoma teacher's strike - whomp whomp, that's a whole other story).
Parker bought a stuffed Charlie while we waiting for lunch.  Charlie was Ree's beloved dog that she has a series of children's books about and has been featured on her show a lot. Sadly, he passed away after many years with their family. Lunch was very yummy!  A little crowded and loud, but tasty!
After lunch we did some shopping (I may have gotten a thing or four), had some afternoon coffee and delicious cupcakes then we headed back to Stillwater. What a fun time!

Once we were back in Stillwater we went to see the other Transformers statue, Bumblebee.  It was in a different part of town and Parker was just as excited to see this one.  Notice the jackets, it was a little chilly, windy and misting rain.  Oh jackets, we miss you with this summer heat!

We went back to the hotel and rested a while then went to a recommended local favorite pizza place for dinner. It was right across the street from the university.  While it was good, it didn't knock our socks off like we had read or heard.
That wraps up day two of our Oklahoma fun - more to come!

Until we meet again...
Riley
