Hooray for Hillary!

This is Hillary - our 17 year old niece. She lives in Odessa and will be a senior in high school this year. I was in the 7th grade when she was born - wow, how time flies!! She will be leaving this Friday for a 3-week summer school program at Oxford University. She received an invitaion to attend and has worked hard preparing what was required for this trip and raising the money to take advantage of this opportunity. We couldn't be more proud of her!

Hillary, we wish you safe travels and we are so happy for you! What a wonderful opportunity - we hope you enjoy yourself....God be with you!

We have 10 nieces and nephews that we love and adore so much, so it gives us pride to brag on them a little bit!

Show Us Where You Live Friday - Master Bedroom

Happy Friday! It's time this week to show off our Master Bedrooms. We painted and decorated our master bedroom about a year and a half ago thanks to my buddy, Carianne (http://athomewiththebilletts.blogspot.com/). She came and spent the weekend with us (January 2008) painting, decorating, rearranging and sharing her wonderful ideas. We are very pleased with the change. You'll see the "LOVE" display above our bed...she made those and brought them as a gift to us...very special indeed.

These pictures were taken at that time, so there are a couple of small changes. The TV and arrangement around it has changed. When we got our new TV in the living room, we put the living room TV in our bedroom...so it's bigger than the one in the picture and fills up the space better. The candle holder on top of the entertainment center now has various colors of candles that match the room instead of the white ones. The curtains aren't usually pulled back (unless we open the blinds), but they are for some reason in this picture - they look nice hanging straight! We also have two other bedding sets that we switch out with this one for some variety. I also want to mention the "USSERY" platter on our entertainment center that my dear friend, Kimberly (http://thewildworldofthewatkins.blogspot.com/) made for our wedding gift - she's super talented! I could go on and on about various touches and things in this room and the stories behind them, but I'll spare you all the details and stories.

Enjoy Mr. & Mrs. Ussery's room...
We hope you have a great weekend!

Until we meet again...

Book Recommendation...

Over these past two years, we have made doing a devotional for our marriage part of our weekly routine. For the past year, we have been using the book pictured above. It is called "Devotions for a Sacred Marriage" by Gary Thomas. It consists of 52 weekly devotionals for couples made up of scripture, stories and advice. We HIGHLY recommend this book for all married couples - it is wonderful! This book can bring you and your spouse closer to God and to each other than you have ever been and make great marriages even better. It has greatly enriched our marriage and we enjoyed it so much that we wanted to tell others about it. We were even a little sad as we did the last of the 52, but are anxious and excited to find a new book on which to begin. If you happen to be in the market for a devotional book, we give this one two thumbs up!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

We wanted to take a minute to wish all the dads in our life a HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! We thank God for our wonderful fathers - what a blessing they are to us. We hope and pray that you have a wonderful Sunday.

Below are a few pictures with the "Dads"...

My stepdad, Armando, and I - this picture is a couple of years old, but a cute one! I'm so very lucky that you are my stepdad!
Armando and John on the golf course. This is one of their favorite places to be and favorite things to do together. This picture was in Abliene last August. They look so nice and handsome - a fun day!
This is John and his Dad (Mark) - this was taken before John's brother's (Jason) college graduation last May. John loves to spend time outdoors with his Dad when we go visit them in Arkansas - great bonding time.

Mark and I before the Christmas Eve service last year. There were other people in the picture, but I just focused in on the two of us standing together. I jokingly call him "Pa-in-law" and he lovingly calls me "Riley B".

My Dad (Gregg) and I - this was at The Harbor on Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall. What a fun place! I'm so blessed to have such a wonderful relationship with my Dad.
Dad and John preparing a shrimp boil at the family reunion - they are men on a mission! They always have a good time together.

We also want to remember our grandfathers on this special day. I miss my Grandpa and Flash so very much, but have so many wonderful memories of both of them. John only had the opportunity to know one of his grandfathers (his Mom's Dad), but he has great memories of him as well.

Calvin also wanted me to thank John for being such a good "Doggy Daddy". He said thanks for feeding him, playing with him, petting him, brushing him, walking him, giving him treats, snuggling with him, taking naps with him...he said you take such good care of him and he loves you very much! He's a lucky dog. Calvin even got John a card and St. Louis Cardinals coffee mug for Father's Day - how thoughtful!

We love you all!

Show Us Where You Live Friday - Bonus Room/Area

This week we are visiting "bonus rooms" or "bonus areas" of the house...laundry room, playroom, mudroom, etc. I chose to visit our laundry room, one of our little hallways and our game closet. Not the most exciting of areas of the house, but all part of the Ussery home!

Here are some pictures of our laundry room - which is also our pantry and storage for cleaning products and paper products...

Next is a little hallway that leads into my home office, guest room and guest bathroom. We painted it two summers ago and have been trying to spruce it up. We started the "family photo wall", but want to add many more pictures - it's a start though. The cross wall is a collection of crosses that we have been given as gifts, bought on vacations/trips or mark special events...they all have a story and we hope to hang many more here!

Lastly...this really isn't a room, but it's a fun place indeed - our game closet! This closet was labeled "pantry" on the floor plan, but it's in the hallway away from the kicthen and didn't make sense. So we decided this would be our game and toy closet and they were kind enough to build a pantry shelf in the laundry room. We have A LOT of games - of all kinds and for all ages and we LOVE to play game, obviously! We also have puzzles, toys, coloring books, colors, play-dough...come over for fun and games. The shoe rack on the door holds smaller games - card games, decks of cards, dominoes, handheld games, scorepads...you get the idea. And because I'm an organizing freak - each pocket is labeled with what is in it!

I believe next week is the master bedroom! Be sure to check out the other rooms at http://www.kellyskornerblog.com/. Have a super, duper weekend!

Until we meet again...

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Saturday night we went to the Texas Rangers baseball game to watch them take on the Dodgers. The Rangers Ballpark in Arlington is such a beautiful ballpark. The Rangers lost 3-1 and we had to sit through an hour and a half "light" delay (some of the lights went out and we waited while the electric company fixed the issues), but we had a wonderful time. The weather was nice, yummy food to eat, great atmosphere, good view from our seats and of course we were together! We love sports, so this made for a GREAT date night!

Here are a few pictures from the night...
We took lots of pictures of the players and different things going on on the field, but we won't bore you with those. We did get a good view of the new Dallas Cowboys stadium - WOW...that thing is HUGE!

Here is a picture of it...

We probably won't ever be able to go to a game there because of the $$$, but we do plan to do a stadium tour in July so we are pumped about that! We are anxious to see the new digs inside and out. Training camp starts in about two months - whoo hoo!! We will start working on our Fantasy Football teams in late August...fun, fun, fun!
We are going to San Antonio on Saturday and going to see WICKED Saturday night. Are you green with envy - haha! We will be back home on Sunday...really looking forward to that!
Have a great week!
Until we meet again...

Show Us Where You Live Friday - Bathrooms

This week, it's time to take a look at our bathrooms! We have two bathrooms in our house - the master bathroom and our guest bathroom in our small hallway. We have painted and decorated both of these bathrooms since moving in in 2006. We have the jungle animal decor in our bedroom so we carried that theme and those colors into our bathroom. We just recently painted the guest bathroom a pumpkin/terra cotta color - it is definitely orange, but not as loud as the pictures appear to be. We LOVE how the guest bathroom turned out!!
Here are some pictures of our bathroom...

Here are pictures of the guest bathroom...

We hope you have a great weekend! We are going to the Ranger game on Saturday night so we'll have some fun pictures from that and hopefully a victory.
Until we meet again...
