Drumroll Please...

IT'S A BOY! We are extremely excited and thrilled...on cloud nine! It has been quite an afternoon and evening. We went to our sonogram and found out we are expecting a little boy. Even better, they said everything is developing perfectly and our little boy weighs about 8 ounces at this point. We are still on target to deliver at the end of February. We have so many emotions and more things to share now that we know "it's" a "he". Our minds are spinning and overwhelmed with wonderful thoughts about decorating his room, things to buy, crafts for Mommy to make for his room and memories to make once he's here with us and in the years to come. After our appointment, we contacted lots of family and friends to share the news. We then celebrated with buying a few boy outfits (pictures to come later) and dinner. What a day!

A little bit about his name...PARKER HOLT! We love it. Parker is a name that we have both loved for years. It's a name we always knew we would use if we ever had a boy - even before we started trying to get pregnant years ago. It's not uncommon, but not overly common and it's super cute. Holt popped in my mind as we were watching the movie "Fireproof" one night several months ago. We've seen that movie numerous times and the couple's last name in the movie is "Holt" and as I heard it throughout the movie, I told John that I really liked it and thought it would be a neat middle name. Then the name "Holt" wouldn't leave us alone. Haha! One day on my way home from work, I look over and there's a truck that says "Holt Construction"...I found a flower shop business card and the shop was called "Holt Florist"...we drove by a law office one day that said "Law Offices of Charles Holt"...I read an article in my Southern Living magazine about Holt, Alabama...I was watching another movie one afternoon and the main character's last name was "Holt"...there's an adoption agency I've heard about called "Holt Adoption Agency". You get the idea...for a name so rare it kept appearing to us so we knew it was a sign!

There is SO much more to come, but we are blessed, happy and thankful to share this with you all! Thank you for all of your love and for sharing in our joy. Praise God from whom blessings flow for this precious gift.

Parker Holt, your Mommy and Daddy can't wait to meet you!

Until we meet again...

18 Weeks

I am: 18 weeks pregnant
Size of Baby: Baby Ussery is the size of a bell pepper
Total Weight Gained: No weight gained yet ~ I still weigh about the same as I did pre-pregnancy, but I think it's redistributed a little bit.
Maternity Clothes: I have a nice little maternity clothes section in my closet. This week I ordered a Dallas Cowboys maternity t-shirt. I am looking forward to getting that. My Mom (Mamaw) also sent me a couple of new things last week that are super cute for fall/winter. Thanks Mom! The top I am wearing in this picture isn't maternity, but it fits me a little loose. I am wearing this same top in my 13 week post (click here to see that picture and how I've changed in the same outfit).
Gender: We will found out TUESDAY!!! If he/she cooperates during the sonogram that is...fingers crossed and prayers lifted! It's really going to get more FUN once we know if we are having a boy or girl.

Name: We have our names picked out, but waiting to reveal his or her name once we find out. Everyone will know this little one's name this week!
Movement: No movement yet, but should be happening any day now. It can happen as early as the 16th week and as late as the 21st week.
Sleep: Overall, I'm sleeping pretty good right now - a little bit of restlessness here and there, but not too bad.
What I Miss: I can't really think of anything I missed too bad this week.
Cravings: No cravings yet
How I'm Feeling: I am feeling really good! I've had a little more back pain and pressure and a little discomfort over the past week, but not too bad. It doesn't hang around too long and it could be so much worse!!
Best Moment last Week: We went to a Christian based parenting conference called "Raising Truly Great Kids" on Saturday and it was wonderful. We learned SO much and it really opened our eyes in a lot of different areas. It wasn't a class on how to change diapers, feed a baby, rock them to sleep, speed up their development, educate them, etc...it was a class on how to love them, encourage them, support them, care for them and grow their heart. It was about loving and dealing with your children like God deals with us. How to raise your child for true greatness - which means he or she having a passionate love for the Lord that shows itself in our child's love and concern for others. We also signed up for a few classes at the hospital in November and December about all sorts of topics. We will also take a tour of the maternity wing in the hospital during one of the classes.

John's Mom (Grandma) bought me a pregnancy planner right after we found out we were pregnant and I love it! It is set up like a calendar so you can record all of your appointments, important dates, milestones in the pregnancy and so on. There are also places to record your weight, thoughts, ideas and questions. Also throughout are some recipes, ways to care for yourself, tips and tricks.

At this point in the pregnancy it suggested to find a way once a week or once a day to connect with your baby. We obviously already do a lot of praying for our sweet one, but I decided that this week I would start reading a book to Baby Ussery once a week. These will be books they will hear over and over again once they are in our home, but until then I will enjoy sharing these stories with them.

The book for this week is called "The Pumpkin Patch Parable". It's a cute story and perfect for fall...plus there's a cute beagle puppy in it that looks a lot like Calvin.

We will be upating the blog Tuesday night, if all goes well with our appointment, so you will know BOY OR GIRL and what their name will be.

Until we meet again...

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

FALL!

It's no secret that Fall is my favorite season (and John's too). It brings so many wonderful things! One of my favorite things to do every fall is decorate our house for the season. It makes the house feel cozy and festive. I have collected and made various decorations over the years that fill up two storage tubs. John got the tubs out of the attic a couple of weeks ago and I spent a couple of hours cleaning and decorating.

A new addition this year is a scarecrow that was my Grammy's. I'm so glad to have it. My Mom gave it to me over the summer when we were going through some of her things. Every year I will think of Grammy when I put him out. He's sitting under the table with our family Bible on it.

I also did a craft project yesterday. I bought a pumpkin at Kroger, painted it all over with glue and sprinkled glitter all over it. Once it was dry, John sprayed a sealer on it and I tied a brown bow around it. It's sitting on our island. I'll obviously have to throw it away at the end of the season, but we'll enjoy it until then. I have a few Halloween (non-scary) decorations to put out in October that will be replaced with a couple of Thanksgiving decorations in November.

A yearly tradition - the pumpkin basket on the counter has miniature chocolates in it and the football has candy corn in it. When you press the button to open the top, it plays the Fox NFL theme song.

Welcome inside! Would you like some coffee or apple cider?

Until we meet again...

17 Weeks

*Please ignore my ponytail/sloppy hair*

I am: 17 weeks pregnant
Size of Baby: Baby Ussery is the size of an onion
Total Weight Gained: No weight gained yet ~ I still weigh about the same as I did pre-pregnancy, but I think it's redistributed a little bit. I forgot to weigh this morning, so I will tomorrow. I figure it's still about the same.
Maternity Clothes: I have a nice collection started. I am wearing a maternity shirt and jeans in this picture. There's a picture of the front of this shirt down below. My Mom got it for me over the summer when I was staying with her for a week. It says "Current Status - Mommy to Be". I love it!
Gender: We will found out a week from tomorrow - the appointment can't get here fast enough! Several people have given their guesses as to boy or girl, so that's been fun. There's also been the question of "Would we rather have a boy or girl?" First of all, our first concern is health - as long as they are healthy and happy, that's all we care about. However, there are so many reasons we have talked about wanting a little girl and just as many reasons for wanting a little boy.
Name: We have our names picked out, but waiting to reveal his or her name once we find out. Everyone will know this little one's name in about a week or so.
Movement: No movement yet, but should be happening soon. It can happen as early as the 16th week and as late as the 21st week.
Sleep: Overall, I'm sleeping really good right now.
What I Miss: This week, I missed being able to lift heavy items and move some things - I feel so limited. Luckily, I'm married to a handsome helper! We are continuing with various projects around the house and I have to remember I'm pregnant and know what I can and can't do.
Cravings: No cravings yet
How I'm Feeling: I am feeling really good! I've had a little more back pain and pressure over the past week, but not too bad. It could be so much worse.
Best Moment last Week: Scheduling our "gender reveal" sonogram and getting to hear the precious heartbeat again (which is really fast and strong). Our doctor also let John record the heartbeat on his phone so now we can listen to it anytime we want.
We also took Baby Ussery to their first Texas Rangers game last Thursday night. Granted they were resting in my tummy, but they were there! I can't tell you how excited John is to take them to their first Rangers game. I'm sure they will be decked out in Rangers gear and John will qucikly start teaching them all the players names, positions, rules...you name it. They may only be several months old, but he's ever so anxious. What a great day that will be - let the memories begin!

The Rangers played the Indians and won 7-4 with 2 homeruns hit. It was a great game and the weather was perfect. John kept score and he's hoping to frame the scorecard for a special place in the baby's room - boy or girl.

Here's a couple of pictures of us before the game...

I have put all of our fall decorations out so hopefully I can blog some pictures of them later this week. I know you can hardly wait - hah!

Have a great week!
Until we meet again...

16 Weeks

I am: 16 weeks pregnant
Size of Baby: Baby Ussery is the size of an avacado

Total Weight Gained: No weight gained yet ~ I still weigh about the same as I did pre-pregnancy, but I think it's redistributed a little bit.
Maternity Clothes: I have a nice collection started. I am wearing a maternity outfit (shirt and leggings) in this picture. Maternity jeans are awesome. I should have been wearing them before I was even pregnant, haha!

Gender: SO EXCITED TO FIND OUT...and we now have our date! Tuesday, September 27th is the big day. Two weeks from today we will know if we are having a sweet baby boy or girl! We've been waiting for this day for a long time...
Name: We have our names picked out, but waiting to reveal his or her name once we find out. Everyone will know this little one's name in about two weeks.
Movement: No movement yet, but should be happening soon. It can happen as early as the 16th week and as late as the 21st week.
Sleep: Overall, I'm sleeping really good right now.

What I Miss: Last week, I missed getting to lick the beaters after I made cupcakes. MMM! John was happy to do it though!
Cravings: No cravings yet
How I'm Feeling: I am feeling really good!
Best Moment last Week: I worked in the baby's room (old guest room) a little more, continuing to clean it out and find new places for things. I have to get it emptied out, for the most part anyway, over the next few weeks because my best friend, Carianne, is coming to paint the nursery the second weekend in October!! Hooray ~ I am super excited to see her and spend some fun time together, but also get the baby's room painted. She's quite the painter so we are lucky to have her help. After that we'll be able to move on to furniture, bedding and decor. We already have a theme picked out for boy or girl so once we find out what it is, we can buy all of the paint and supplies.

Have a great week!
Until we meet again...

Cupcakes & Grandparents

In honor of the NFL season kicking off last night (hip hip hooray!), I decided to make us football themed cupcakes to have for dessert after our pizza. YUM! They definitely aren't anything professional, but turned out cute and were mighty tasty. I love these mini-mixes that the Dollar Tree sells. They are only $1 and makes only 12 instead of 24. John and I certainly don't need 24 cupcakes! It was a fun, relaxing evening. We had our pizza and cupcakes and enjoyed all of the pre-game festivites as well as the game itself. What a great game...although we didn't make it through the whole game. We are looking forward to more football this weekend and the COWBOYS first game Sunday night! On another note, Sunday is "Grandparents Day"! While our little one is still a few months away from making their entrance into the world, we know that they will be blessed with three sets of wonderful grandparents when they make their arrival. Our parents have all been grandparents for several years now, but it's so exciting that we will get to join in the fun and have them be grandparents to our child. (Side note: I must mention though they have already been awesome grandparents to their grandog Calvin. He's a lucky dog.) We can't wait for the memories that await our child with their grandparents. Although we live about 5-6 hours from our parents, we will do our very best to keep the connection and bond strong between our sweet little boy or girl and their grandparents. This blog will be a great place to post updates, pictures and video clips. (Sometimes the internet is a beautiful thing!) Hopefully, we will still be able to do lots of visiting and have them all vist as well.

It is our hope and prayer that we can help foster a loving relationship between our child and their grandparents. As they get older, we look forward to when they can call them on a regular basis and go visit for a few days. We will cherish the influence that our parents will have our on child and we will sure be leaning on our parents for advice, words of wisdom and support when it comes to raising our little one. We are entering a whole new world! I read something the other day that said, "Once you have your own kids, you may suddenly realize that your parents had more wisdom than you may have previously thought." Haha! There will be things and instances we will want to handle on our own or the way we feel is best, but we will certainly enlist their help as we need it. They have been through the "raising children" chapter of life and have trial and error on their side as well as many experiences and lots of perspective.

We are very thankful for you all and can't wait to share our bundle of joy with you. Happy Grandparents Day!

Now let's meet Baby Ussery's grandparents...

This is my Mom and Armando who will be lovingly called "Mamaw and Grandpa".

This is my Dad and Kristin who will be lovingly called "Grandpa and Granny".

These are John's parents who will be lovingly called "Grandad and Grandma". One thing we have planned for the nursery is to make a photo collage of our immediate family so we can point out family members and say their names so as they get older they can make a name/face association and even though they won't always be able to see them in person, they will be able to see them in pictures in between times together. It will be a great way for them to become familar with and recognize their family members.

Happy Weekend!
Until we meet again...
